Elon Musk has reignited his ‘war’ against Wikipedia. Days after his followers to stop donating to the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organisation behind
Wikipedia and saying $1 billion 'name change' offer stands, the Tesla CEO has made another ‘request' to his supporters to not donate to Wikipedia.
Musk – who has changed his name to Kekius Maximus – has shared a video on X. In the video, it is claimed that Wikipedia editors have have removed large chunks of information on Jeffrey Epstein from a page on former US President Bill Clinton.
“No more donations to @Wikipedia until they start being truthful,” Musk said. You can watch the video here.
Musk concerned over Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives
Musk previously called upon his followers to stop donating to the Wikimedia Foundation citing concerns over its spending on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
“Stop donating to Wokepedia until they restore balance to their editing authority,” he said while responding to a post, which highlighted a pie chart showing that 29% of Wikipedia's $177 million budget for 2023-24 was allocated to “equity” and “safety & inclusion.”
The foundation, however, clarified that “supporting equity represents the second largest part of our programmatic work, with grants and Movement support representing the majority of the budget within the equity goal.”
Musk has criticised the Wikimedia Foundation's financial dealings in the past.
“Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …,” Musk said in a post in 2023.
Musk’s $1 billion offer to Wikipedia
Musk has also said that his offer to give Wikipedia $1 billion if it changes its name stands. He had offered Wikipedia $1 billion if it changed its name to “Dickipedia”.
