3.5/5
Home-grown consumer electronics brand Ubon recently expanded its product portfolio with the launch of Ubon Gold Edition SP-70 Deluxe wireless speaker. Priced at Rs 1,599, the speaker has an audio output of 16W. The speaker comes as an affordable option for users looking for a portable device with multiple features for everyday use. We have been using the speaker for sometime and here’s what we think about it
Design and build
Ubon Gold Edition SP-70 Deluxe wireless speaker has a practical and clean design.
It is made of durable ABS plastic with a matte finish on the outside, which feels solid and is less prone to get scratched. The front of the speaker has a gold-coloured metallic mesh that covers the drivers and gives it a slightly premium look.
The speaker is compact and light, making it easy to carry around. It fits easily in a backpack or can be carried by hand, making it a good choice for outdoor use like small get-togethers or trips.
In terms of connectivity, the SP-70 offers a lot of options. It supports Aux input, USB drives, TF cards, and even has an FM radio mode. For wireless use, it comes with Bluetooth version 5.3, which connects quickly to phones, tablets, and laptops. Charging is done using a Type-C cable, which is faster and more convenient than older micro-USB chargers.
Overall, the design is simple, portable, and the speaker gives you flexible ways to listen to music whether you are indoors or outside.
Performance
Ubon Gold Edition SP-70 Deluxe comes with a 16W speaker output, which is good enough for small rooms and outdoor gatherings. The speaker is tuned to deliver clear sound with a focus on bass, aiming to give a fuller music experience.
In our testing, we played a mix of Bollywood songs across different genres — from soft romantic tracks to upbeat dance numbers and heavy bass songs. The speaker handled the lows, mids, and highs reasonably well for its size and price.
For bass-heavy tracks like “Malang” and “Ghungroo”, the speaker delivered a decent punch in the low-end. The bass was not overpowering but added good energy to party tracks.
Mid-range songs like “Tera Ban Jaunga” from Kabir Singh sounded clear, with vocals standing out nicely without being drowned by the music. Instruments like guitars and soft drums also came through cleanly.
High notes and sharper sounds in songs like “Nashe Si Chadh Gayi” from Befikre were handled well, although at very high volumes, the highs sometimes felt a little softer.
Thanks to its stereo audio setup, the speaker creates a wide sound that easily fills a small room or outdoor space. While it may not match high-end speakers in terms of depth and detail, it delivers an enjoyable listening experience for casual music lovers and party settings.
Battery
Packed with a 2,400mAh battery, the company claims that the speaker can last up to 6 hours on a single charge. During our testing, the speaker lasted around 4.5 to 5 hours of playback at moderate volume levels, which is close to what was promised.
As mentioned earlier, there is a USB Type-C port for charging, which is convenient and faster compared to older micro-USB cables. It takes about 2 to 2.5 hours to fully charge the speaker from zero.
Verdict
Ubon Gold Edition SP-70 Deluxe wireless speaker is a good option for anyone looking for a budget-friendly portable speaker. Priced at Rs 1,599, it offers a clean design, multiple connectivity options, decent sound output, and reliable battery life. The speaker is capable of handling different types of music well for casual listening and is easy to carry for outdoor use. While it may not deliver very deep bass or very high volume like more expensive speakers, it meets everyday needs without much compromise.
