Apple today announced the new iMac with M4 chip that powers the suite of AI features, thus the new model is "built for
Apple Intelligence." The new 24-inch iMac, starting at Rs 134,900 in India, will be available for purchase beginning November 8, with pre-orders opening today.
The desktop maintains its 24-inch 4.5K Retina display but introduces a new nano-texture glass option designed to reduce glare and reflections. Apart from this, the iMac 24-inch looks the same as its 2021 predecessor, having an aluminium unibody design but in new colours – green, yellow, orange, pink, purple blue, and silver.
With the M4 chip, the new iMac boasts performance improvements of up to 2.1 times faster processing for demanding tasks like gaming and photo editing compared to its M1 predecessor, while everyday productivity sees a 1.7x speed boost.
Apple's new M4 chip also enables enhanced AI capabilities through the company's Apple Intelligence features, integrated with the latest macOS Sequoia operating system.
The base model for the iMac now comes standard with 16GB of RAM (up from 8GB on previous models), expandable to 24GB on higher-tier configurations. Storage options on the base model range from 256GB to 1TB, while there is another variant that can be configured up to 2TB.
The company has also addressed a long-standing user request by transitioning its peripheral accessories—including the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse
, and Magic Trackpad—from Lightning to USB-C charging ports. These accessories are available in matching colours to complement the iMac's refreshed colour palette, which includes green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver options.
The base model, priced at Rs. 1,34,900 (Rs. 1,24,900 for education), features an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. The higher-end configuration, starting at Rs. 1,54,900 (Rs. 1,44,900 for education), offers a 10-core CPU and GPU, four Thunderbolt 4 ports, and comes with Touch ID on the Magic Keyboard.
