“What a joke”: Connor McDavid earns top NHLPA honor but fans say others were more "deserving"

Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid received the NHL's Best Overall Forward award. The NHL Players’ Association shared this news. McDavid secured nearly 74% of the votes. However, fans expressed their disagreement with this decision. They cited other players' performance and McDavid's stats. McDavid recently returned after missing a game. He has scored 26 goals and 99 points this season.

Connor McDavid, the star player of the Edmonton Oilers, came back to the ice at the match against the St. Louis Blues a few days ago. With Connor McDavid being awarded the NHL Second Star’s of the Week, it seems like things are looking up for the star player this week. Recently, Connor McDavid was awarded the NHL’s "Best Overall Forward" by other players but fans feel this decision was unfair.

Connor McDavid records another achievement but fans are not happy about it



The NHL Players’ Association shared a post on their official social media accounts honouring Connor McDavid. The post read as, “He is McHim. Taking the category with nearly 74% leaves little doubt that Connor McDavid is the forward that players consider the best overall in the league.”

But fans feel differently; a fan commented, “Mcdavid going on mediocre season #3 while guys like Mack, Kuch, and Drai all out perform him constantly, but yep he sure is the best player.”
Another fan wrote, “Draisaitl should be second on this list. Never forget about Drai....”, while a third fan posted, “WHAT A JOKE THIS IS!!! Nikita Kucherov IS the BEST IN THE WORLD!”

A fourth fan noted, “He's been declining stat wise each year.”
Connor McDavid was missing from the recent match between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings as his team faced a devastating loss. However, overall Connor McDavid has been able to score 26 goals and 99 points so far in this season of the NHL.
As per the results which has been released by the NHL Players’ Association recently, the captain of the Edmonton Oilers won the NHL’s "Best Overall Forward" in the 2024–25 NHLPA Player Poll.
Connor McDavid received the highest votes in any category with a whopping 73.89% of the votes.
Connor McDavid has not issued a statement yet about this achievement of his. However, there has been a decline in his performance if it is even compared to last year. In the 2023 - 24 season, Connor McDavid scored 132 points in 76 games as compared to 99 points in 66 games this year.
