“We have moved on from last night. Everything’s been on the table this morning, and now we are focussing on the next one. We’ve got to be better. We acknowledge that. We gotta work better than we did last night. We gotta lead with more speed and attitude than we did. Last night, we weren’t good enough. We address those things when we are moving on.” said Peter Laviolette shared with the media on March 19, 2025. His team, the New York Rangers, lost to the Calgary Flames with a disappointing score of 2-1. This is not the only loss the Rangers have had recently. There have been only four wins and six losses in the last 10 NHL games of the Rangers.
“If you had a crystal ball and you knew in advance, you certainly would hit that even harder,” says Peter Laviolette about failing at several games and winning only at 4
When the media asked why the Rangers have been struggling in several games, head coach for the New York Rangers, Peter Laviolette, shared, “If you had a crystal ball and you knew in advance, you certainly would hit that even harder. We did talk about the things that make us successful.”
Laviolette continued, “I think we played a better brand of hockey for the last four games with a couple of disappointing results coz it didn’t go our way, but the guys were doing the right things and giving ourselves a chance to be successful. And, so, if you’d known in advance about last night, you could have done something different. But you address it as it’s going through the game, you’re trying to address it on the bench between periods, and it just never really changed.”
Three reasons why the New York Rangers are still struggling to win despite having Jonathan Tanner Miller on their side since February beginning
J. T. Miller was traded to the New York Rangers in the middle of the 2024-2025 NHL season from the Vancouver Canucks. Praising his team for four wins where forechecking was good, J. T. Miller addressed the media at a post-game press conference. Miller shared, “We just get it in, and when we get the puck in, we have a good forecheck. We have enough skill to hurt the other team. We play good D. Keep it simple through the neutral zone, and when you get in the zone, try to start off a forecheck and a cycle game, and if their plays open up. They open up.”
J. T. Miller was often benched in Vancouver Canucks, here at the Rangers, he got a lot a opportunity to play. Sharing with USA Today's Vincent Mercogliano, J. T. Miller shared, "A lot of season wasn't really fun, so I'm just enjoying myself right now. It's fun coming to the rink again."
13 shots on the goal against the Calgary Flames - second-lowest of the 2024-2025 NHL season is proof that there’s a lack of effort from the New York Rangers players. Defenseman Braden Schneider, at the post-game conference, said, “Honestly, I don’t know what happened. We were just off our mark. It was a disappointing game for us. A big two points that we missed out on. All we can do is turn the page and look to tomorrow.”
- Lack of competitive spirit
The energy of the Rangers was low. Anyone who saw them play could make that out. Addressing this competitive spirit issue, Peter Laviolette shared at a post-game conference, “It (competition) was not there. There was nothing there. They were faster than us. They got to the ice quicker than us. They were more ready. That’s the way the game played out. It was not a good showing. It wasn’t good enough. We played four games that we were pretty happy with. And tonight, we weren’t. We’re trying to generate offense. Looking for a goal.”
