“I thought I would kill him”: This is how Alexander Ovechkin proposed to his wife, Anastasia Shubskaya

Alexander Ovechkin has made his mark as the captain of the NHL team, the Washington Capitals. The relationship between Alex Ovechkin and Anastasia Shubskaya

Alex Ovechkin and model Anastasia Shubskaya met at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and exchanged numbers. What resulted from the meeting was cutesy comments on Instagram and dinner over FaceTime calls. She soon flew down to Washington to meet Ovechkin. Soon after, in 2016, they tied the knot in a private ceremony.

Anastasia revealed the unconventional way that Alex decided to propose to her. She revealed to The Washington Post that he popped the question when she was in the shower. She revealed, “I was like, ‘What! Do you understand I am just ...’ and he didn’t stop, so I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh’ and I got a towel, and I opened the door, and he is on one knee with the flowers and with the ring.” She further added, “At first when I opened the door I thought I would kill him. Can you imagine you were in the shower and then you need to get out ... Oh my God. Why you couldn’t just wait? He said: ‘No, no, no. I wanted to right now.'”

They got married in a court in Russia, but had a grand celebration the next year held in Moscow. They now have two sons together, Sergei and Ilya. In an interview with The Washington Post, Alex shared, “Right now all I think about is family. ... She is my one, and she takes care of me, takes care of my son and gives me everything I need. I think I can’t find a better one. If I had a chance, I would never change it.”
