Micah Parsons contract standoff: Will Cowboys lock in their defensive star before it’s too late?

The clock is ticking in Dallas, and the pressure is mounting. With the NFL Draft days away, all eyes are on Micah Parsons, not for what he’ll do on the field, but for what’s yet to happen off it. Despite showing up early for OTAs and embracing a leadership role, the Cowboys still haven’t sealed the deal on a new contract. For a player of Parsons' caliber, the delay is raising eyebrows and questions.


Micah Parsons has done everything a team could ask of its star defender. He’s present at voluntary workouts, something he once skipped and is clearly committed to leading the Cowboys into a new era. But while Parsons is showing up, Dallas’ front office is dragging its feet.
Team executives Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have both addressed the situation, but without much clarity. Stephen recently admitted the team is juggling multiple major deals, including those for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb while still trying to build a competitive roster. Understandable, but the longer they wait, the more it’s going to cost.
Jerry’s stance was classic. “I’d rather pay more and get it right than pay less and screw it up,” he said. That philosophy could soon make Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in the league, potentially surpassing $50 million per year.

Dak Prescott, no stranger to long contract negotiations himself, offered some words of wisdom. Speaking at a charity event, the Cowboys QB told Parsons to remain positive and stay focused on what he wants. It’s advice that comes from experience, Dak’s own deals with Dallas were notoriously drawn out.
Parsons is holding up his end of the deal. He’s present, prepared, and patient for now. But with his value climbing and free agency lurking in the distance, the Cowboys can’t afford to wait forever.
