In 2024, the 31-year-old defensive end Leonard Floyd agreed to a two-year, $20 million deal including $12 million in guaranteed money when he became the San Francisco 49ers’ biggest
NFL offseason acquisition. Floyd experienced a minor injury scare to his knee at the 49ers’ final pre-season game in Las Vegas against the Raiders. However, the injury wasn’t severe which led to Floyd being listed day-to-day by head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Assuming no setbacks, he should be ready when the 49ers kick off their season on September 9 against the New York Jets.
Floyd opens up about Aaron Rodgers
One of the key games will feature a match against the future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. With the regular season of NFL set to begin in a few days, Flyod has spoken about his experience facing an all-time quarterback like Rodgers. Even though the 49ers’ are familiar with how Rodgers is on the field, Floyd shares his perspective and insights.
According to 49ers Webzone, Floyd said “I've done played a lot of football. In Chicago, sometimes we'd have Aaron as a first game. Shoot, man, my scouting report is he's a legendary quarterback and you have to come with your 'A' game because he's the type where he'll embarrass you.”
Floyd further added, “If you give him some momentum, he's going to carry that momentum for the whole game. You just have to be on your Ps and Qs, because he'll score every time if you let him."
Floyd’s advice highlights the need for preparation. Rodgers, now 40 and coming off a major injury, remains dangerous. Even with a slow start, he can turn a game around in an instant.
For Floyd, this NFL season is a fresh start with the San Francisco 49ers. The veteran can be expected to let go of his struggles with the Bears and thrive playing with defensive stars like Nick Bosa and Javon Hargrave.
Oddly enough, last year Rodgers sustained a torn Achilles tendon when he was sacked by Floyd, who at that time was playing for the Buffalo Bills. For San Francisco 49ers fans, Floyd is expected to be successful this season due to his consistency in the last 4 seasons.
