The Dallas Cowboys have their franchise cornerstones in place. Dak Prescott got his record-breaking contract, CeeDee Lamb has cemented himself as one of the league’s best receivers, and on paper, the offense looks strong. But here’s the problem—the passing game is way too dependent on one guy.
Last season, whenever Prescott dropped back, it felt like there was only one real option: get the ball to Lamb and hope for the best. No other receiver even came close to his production. And while Lamb is elite, that kind of imbalance isn’t sustainable. Defenses adjusted, doubling him, shifting coverage, and forcing Prescott into tough spots. Without a reliable second or third option, the offense became predictable.
The Dallas Cowboys can’t keep running the same playbook
The NFL isn’t a league where one receiver can carry a passing game. Even the best quarterbacks—
Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow,
Josh Allen—have multiple weapons at their disposal. The Cowboys? They’ve got Prescott, Lamb… and a whole lot of question marks.
If Dallas really wants to compete, they need to bring in more firepower. That could mean signing a veteran in free agency, drafting a young wideout, or even finding a tight end who can take pressure off Lamb. Whatever the approach, they can’t afford to go into another season without fixing this issue.
It’s not just about adding another guy—it’s about making life easier for Prescott. Right now, defenses know exactly where the ball is going. Give him another reliable option, and suddenly, the offense opens up. Lamb gets more room to operate, the running game benefits, and defenses have to stay honest.
This Offseason could define the Dallas Cowboys’ future
Dallas has its core in place, but that’s only half the battle. The difference between being a good team and a real contender often comes down to depth, and right now, the passing game doesn’t have enough of it.
