The Golden State Warriors’ recent 114-105 loss to the Denver Nuggets ended their seven-game winning streak and highlighted some glaring issues. Despite the absence of Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray, the Nuggets outplayed the Warriors, exposing Golden State’s inconsistent shooting.
Stephen Curry struggled, shooting just 28.5% from beyond the arc, while the team collectively shot 24.2% from three and a dismal 55.7% from the free-throw line.
This performance has sparked speculation about the
Golden State Warriors’ offseason plans. Reports suggest the team could make a bold move to address their shooting woes by pursuing Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson in a sign-and-trade deal involving Jonathan Kuminga.
"The most significant decision the team has to make this offseason concerns Kuminga, who is expected to be well-compensated as a restricted free agent," wrote . "The team can keep him depending on his price, which may raise payroll as high as the second apron. Instead, the Warriors could execute a sign-and-trade to get value in return."

Cam Johnson, a 29-year-old forward, has been a reliable contributor for the
Brooklyn Nets, averaging 19.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists this season. His 40.1% three-point shooting and 88.8% free-throw accuracy make him an attractive target for the Golden State Warriors, who need to bolster their perimeter shooting. Johnson’s experience, including a key role in the Phoenix Suns’ 2021 NBA Finals run, could provide the Warriors with the veteran presence they need to maximize their championship window.
Trading Kuminga, a 22-year-old with immense potential, would be a difficult decision. However, Cam Johnson’s proven impact on contending teams makes him a compelling option. His ability to stretch the floor and defend multiple positions could elevate the Golden State Warriors’ rotation, complementing the core of Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green.
The Golden State Warriors’ front office, led by general manager Mike Dunleavy, faces a critical offseason. With Curry still in his prime, the team must make strategic moves to remain competitive in the loaded Western Conference. Acquiring Cam Johnson could be the key to unlocking another championship run, but it would require sacrificing a promising young talent in Kuminga.
