Phillies’ slugger Alec Bohm opens up on being benched during the National League Division Series playoffs
During the National League Division Series in 2024, not everything looked okay in the Philadelphia Phillies team. Reportedly, third baseman Alec Bohm was benched during the National League Division Series against the New York Mets back in 2024. Recently, Bohm opened up on being benched by the Phillies and their loss against the Mets. During an interview, he said,
"So now what? Like, now, what can you do? I feel like it’s more of a freeing thing now than anything, right? Now I’ve been through that too. I’m still here. Still standing. It’s just all good, bad, indifferent. All those things are going to make you better.”While talking about his approach on the entire matter, Bohm further mentioned
“You can take it the wrong way, and you can be worse off for it. But doing hard things only makes you a better person. So, I think dealing with all the hard s— only makes all the good stuff feel even better, you know?"The playoff benching affected the Philadelphia Phillies’ veteran slugger Alec Bohm, but he chose to deal with the entire situation and media attention in a diplomatic and polite manner instead of blasting the MLB team. He understood the importance of reflecting on his performance and utilized the opportunity to understand and grow as an athlete.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson initiated the move to bench Alec Bohm during the National League Division Series in 2024. He later explained the objective behind the move. Rob Thomson revealed
"He's scuffling a little bit. It's not like there aren't other guys scuffling a little bit. I just want to get some energy into the lineup. Sosa's kind of our energy guy, runs around and does some things, maybe creates some things."According to the statistics, Phillies’ third baseman Alec Bohm completed the season with 0-for-4 in the first game. The Mets restricted the Phillies on the corners with a 6-2 loss, and frustrated Bohm reacted to it by slamming his helmet to the ground. Thomson took a notice of his act and said,
"That comes into play, sure. He is frustrated, and I get it, but you've got to keep playing."Alec Bohm even missed the series for just fourteen days, from August 30 through September 15, due to an injury. He suffered a strain in his right hand and returned after a 10-day leave.
