Vladimir Guerrero Jr. sheds light on Juan Soto's involvement in rejecting Blue Jays deal
On Tuesday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. revealed that his contract extension discussions with the Toronto Blue Jays have come to an end. While talking about his negotiations, Guerrero Jr. revealed that Juan Soto's massive $765 Million deal has no part in his decision to reject a contract extension with the Blue Jays. Sharing details into his take, Guerrero Jr. said:
"Soto's deal had nothing to do with my decision at all. Even before that, I knew my value. I knew my number. I don't want -- especially my teammates -- to go through any distractions. I'm here today, I'm ready and want to win a lot of games, and I want to make it to the playoffs. That's all.""I love the city. I love the fans. I mean, it's hard, but at the end of the day, like I say, it's business. I'll do everything that I have to stay here with the Blue Jays. I love it here. I want to be here," Guerrero Jr. concluded his statement.
In December last year, Juan Soto announced signing a whopping $765 Million 15-year-long contract with the New York Mets. According to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., his decision isn't based on Soto's signing but a mindful "business" move. Taking about rejecting the contract extension, Guerrero Jr. said:
"They have their numbers; I have my numbers. Listen, I want to be here. I want to be a Blue Jay for the rest of my career. But it's free agency. It's business. So I'm going to have to listen to 29 more teams and they're going to have to compete for that."Earlier this month, there were speculations that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would be traded in the offseason. However, MLB insider
Jon Heyman later dismissed the rumors, claiming that the team would retain the first baseman. However, Guerrero Jr. would not be a free agent in 2026. Who do you think will end up hiring Guerrero Jr.?
