Marvel Rivals faces high RAM consumption issues on PC: Fix expected in Season 2

Marvel Rivals players face issues running the game smoothly on PC due to high RAM requirements. NetEase Games aims to fix this in Season 2, expected around mid-April. An experimental check box may be added in the launcher to reduce RAM consumption. The game runs fine on consoles, indicating the issue is PC-specific.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Marvel Rivals lead technical designer Weikang Ruan commented on the game’s extreme memory consumption on PC. Marvel Rivals states that the minimum RAM requirement for running the game is 16 GB. However, players have faced major issues trying to run the game smoothly at the minimum system requirements. NetEase Games is aware of this severe optimization problem on PC, and players can expect a fix sometime in Marvel Rivals Season 2.
In this article, we will discuss everything Marvel Rivals lead technical designer Weikang Ruan said about the game’s extreme RAM usage on PC and when players can expect a fix for the same.

Marvel Rivals has listed the minimum RAM requirement to run the game as 16 GB. However, recent updates have pushed the game to require a minimum of 32 GB of RAM on PC to run smoothly. This makes the game unplayable for a large number of players with relatively low to medium specced systems.
In an interview at GDC 2025, Marvel Rivals lead technical designer Weikang Ruan addressed this issue, stating that it’s one of the top priorities for the development team to optimize and fix. Players can expect a fix or optimization update in Marvel Rivals Season 2, which is around mid-April. Here’s what he said:
"On PC, we realize that [optimization] is a big problem, especially for the memory consumption. So it may be that in Season 2, we will have an experimental check box in our launcher players can use to reduce memory [consumption] significantly."
Marvel Rivals runs on the popular Unreal Engine 5, which is notoriously known to stutter. However, Marvel Rivals has been optimized well, so most players can run the game without issues. The game even runs perfectly on Xbox Series S, which has only 8 GB of usable RAM. This shows that the problem is limited to PC players only, which is a major setback for NetEase Games, as a significant number of players around the world play on low-spec PCs.
Weikang Ruan stated that coming up with a fix or optimization for this specific issue requires a lot of work, as the game is based on the new Unreal Engine 5. This fix cannot be made through a small patch but instead needs to be alongside a major update. Here’s what Mr. Ruan said:
“It's a very big problem, but it's a lot of work to organize [a fix]. We cannot just release it in a small patch, we have to fully test it. But we realize the problem and we're going to keep optimizing. It's hard for all developers to use the engine and make it good. It's a new engine for us. We have a lot of hard work [ahead] to optimize it.”
