To hunt a deer in RuneScape Dragonwilds is not as simple as swinging the sword. The skittish creatures just bolt at the 1st sign of danger, forcing the players to rely upon the ranged weapons. So, if you are after the antlers for the quests or for crafting, here is how you can take the Deer down in an efficient way.

Why do you need a bow to hunt a deer in RuneScape Dragonwilds?

Deer in RuneScape Dragonwilds are fast, and they get easily spooked. If you charge at the time with the melee weapon, they will sprint away, even before you land the hit. This is why ranged combat is important, especially Ash Shortbow.
The single well-placed arrow will be enough to bring the Deer down. Without the bow, hunting a deer becomes quite impossible. So, before heading to the Bramblemead Valley, make sure you are equipped properly.

Steps to craft Ash Shortbow

To make the bow, you will first need a Spinning Wheel. To build one, gather 12 Ash logs, 2 Stones, and 4 Flax. The Flax grows like blue flowers near the Bramblemead Valley, while the Ash Logs and the Stones are quite commonly found in forested areas.
After the Spinning Wheel is set up under the roof, use the Flax to craft the Coarse Thread. Each Flax makes 1 thread. With 3 Coarse Threads and 12 Ash Logs, then craft the Ash Shortbow at either of the Crafting Tables.

Making arrows for a Deer hunt

The bow will be useless without the arrows. To craft the simplest of the Stone Arrows' needs, you will need,
  • 1 Stone- can be mined from the rocks.
  • 1 Ash Log- chop it from the trees.
  • 1 Feather- collect it from chickens.

The crafting will yield you 33 arrows per batch. It will be more than enough for a hunt. If you have unlocked the Fang Arrows, that would work. However, the Stone Arrows just get the job done.

Find and kill the Deer

The Deer roams in Bramblemead Valley. They are identifiable by the large antlers. Equip the bow (using the right stick for precision) and fire. 1 clean shot will drop dead a deer, granting you Antlers and, at times, the Coarse Animal Fur.
As the Deer flee quicker, make sure to stay at a distance. If you miss, they will run. However, eventually they respawn. So, be patient and make sure to keep the Antlers, as they will be helpful for your quests later. Especially if you are stockpiling the resources, make sure to hunt a few extra deer while you are at it.
