In a major leadership shake-up, Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed changes to their captaincy roles across formats on Monday. Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down as the Test captain, while ODI skipper Shai Hope has been handed the reins of the T20I side, replacing Rovman Powell.
Brathwaite, who led the West Indies in 39 Test matches since 2017, decided to step aside as the team prepares for a new phase. His successor is yet to be named and will take charge ahead of West Indies’ first assignment in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship cycle (2025-27), starting with a home series against Australia.

Meanwhile, Shai Hope, the current ODI captain, has been entrusted with the T20I captaincy, signaling a fresh approach in the shortest format. Hope replaces Rovman Powell, who had led the side since 2022. The move comes as the Windies aim to build a formidable squad ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
With these leadership changes, West Indies cricket embarks on a new chapter, focusing on consistency and long-term planning in both red-ball and white-ball formats.
