Mumbai Indians made a significant leap in the IPL 2025 standings following their dominant seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. With this victory, the five-time champions have now accumulated 10 points from nine matches, climbing to third place on the points table. The win not only boosted their points tally but also improved their Net Run Rate (NRR) to +0.673, which could prove crucial in the latter stages of the tournament.
Mumbai’s resurgence in the second half of the season has been notable. After a shaky start, they have now secured back-to-back wins, showing renewed balance in both their batting and bowling departments. With five wins and four losses, Hardik Pandya's side is firmly in the playoff race, though with little room for error as the competition tightens.

In stark contrast, Sunrisers Hyderabad continue to struggle. The heavy defeat to MI was their sixth in eight games, leaving them languishing at the bottom of the table alongside Chennai Super Kings. Both SRH and CSK have just four points, but Hyderabad’s Net Run Rate of -1.361 is only marginally better than Chennai’s -1.392. Pat Cummins’ side has lacked consistency, especially with the bat, and their playoff hopes are now hanging by a thread.

What’s been the key factor in Mumbai Indians’ rise in IPL 2025?

At the top of the table, Gujarat Titans and Delhi Capitals are leading the charge with 12 points each from eight games. Gujarat hold the top spot thanks to their superior NRR of +1.104, while Delhi follows closely with +0.657.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants are also locked in a tight race for the playoff spots, each sitting on 10 points.
RCB and Punjab enjoy healthy NRRs of +0.472 and +0.177 respectively, while LSG’s -0.054 NRR could hurt them in tie-break scenarios.
.

Kolkata Knight Riders, currently seventh with six points and an NRR of +0.212, still have a chance if they can string together a few wins.
However, for SRH, CSK, and even Rajasthan Royals—who also sit on four points with a -0.633 NRR—the window for a comeback is rapidly closing.
