India vs England highlights, 3rd ODI: Shubman Gill stars as India beat England by 142 runs to complete 3-0 series sweep

India vs England highlights, 3rd ODI: England’s batting woes continued as Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya claimed two wickets each to power India to a commanding 142-run victory in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday. The emphatic win sealed a 3-0 series sweep for the hosts, while England’s inconsistency with the bat raised concerns ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Openers Ben Duckett (34) and Phil Salt (23) provided a blistering start, scoring at 10 runs per over in the Power-play. The duo notched their fourth fifty-plus partnership in five ODIs, but England once again failed to capitalize. Duckett launched an early assault on Arshdeep Singh, smashing four consecutive boundaries in the fifth over. However, the left-arm pacer had the last laugh, dismissing him in the next over with a slower delivery that was mistimed straight to Rohit Sharma at mid-off.

Tom Banton (38), who replaced Jamie Overton in the XI, made an immediate impact, smashing a six off Washington Sundar in the next over. He enjoyed a stroke of luck when a thin edge zipped past KL Rahul for a boundary. However, Arshdeep struck again, removing Salt with a well-disguised slower bouncer. An attempted uppercut resulted in a simple catch for Axar Patel at point, leaving England at 84/2 by the end of the Power-play.

Joe Root (24) and Banton attempted to stabilize the innings but struggled against spin—an issue that has plagued England throughout the ODI and T20I series. Kuldeep Yadav provided the breakthrough, outfoxing Banton with a delivery that turned past the outside edge to rattle the stumps. Axar then dismissed Root in the 22nd over as an inside edge crashed into the stumps.

Harshit Rana’s return spell proved decisive. He struck immediately, dismissing Jos Buttler with his first delivery—an inside edge off a length ball that cannoned onto the stumps. Harry Brook (19) fell in Rana’s next over in an unfortunate manner, as the ball deflected off his bat face and rolled onto the stumps.

Sundar added to England’s troubles, outwitting Liam Livingstone (9) with a quicker delivery outside off. Livingstone charged down the track in an attempt to go big but missed completely, leaving Rahul with a simple stumping opportunity.

With lower-order wickets tumbling—Adil Rashid (0) and Mark Wood (9) departing cheaply—Gus Atkinson provided some late fireworks for England. He hammered a 38-run cameo at a blistering strike rate of 200, including six boundaries and a six, before Axar castled him to wrap up India’s 142-run victory.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 3rd ODI: 'I don't see there was anything wrong we did this series

Very very pleasing (with the way the series went). We knew there will be challenges that we could face. I mean there is nothing I could have done about that (the ball that got rid of him today). Credit to the bowler and the bowler is there to get you out and you are there as a batter to challenge that. Just nicked the ball, second ball I was facing and couldn't have done anything about that. I don't see there was anything wrong we did this series. Obviously there are certain things we are looking at (to improve) and I am not going to stand here and explain those. It is our job as well to keep some consistency within the squad and the communication is clear. Obviously any champion team wants to get better every game and move forward from there. Very happy with the score (at the break). There is a bit of freedom in the squad to go out there and play the way you want. The World Cup was a perfect example of that and we want to continue to do that. There will be times it will not fall in place but that's okay.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 3rd ODI: 'We were outplayed by a fantastic team'

It went in similar fashion to the whole tour (talking about the batting). We were outplayed by a fantastic team. Our approach (with bat) is a right one, just that we haven't executed well. They put a great score on the board. Shubman played a great innings. We got off to a great start again but familiar story again for us. Need to find a way to bat longer. We were up against a really good side that keeps challenging.

IND vs ENG Live Score, 3rd ODI: 'The break I got in between where I was working with the domestic team'

In the first game, I wanted to take the momentum after we lost two consecutive wickets, I tried to play the ball on its merit. I just back my instincts and tried to deliver. In the second game, I thought I would finish the game. And today, Shubman and Virat laid a great platform and that helped me to excel. I wish I could have got a hundred.

The break I got in between where I was working with the domestic team and I also got opportunity to work on my technique as well and especially the drop-in shots which got me singles, it’s not about cuts and pulls all the time, the drop-in shots matter and that’s what’s more satisfying for me. The dressing room is electrifying with lots of energy and I feel each and every individual is in great form in the team. I think it’s great to win this series and carry the momentum into the Champions Trophy.

You could see in the three games how every individual stepped up for the team. Getting those crucial runs and wickets at the right time was important. We have worked a lot on that and as a unit, we are trying to deliver and create that breakthrough that the team needs in imperative time. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hopefully I will get the award for the best fielder of the series (chuckles).

India vs England Live Score: Gill, Iyer take India to 356 against England

India vs England Live Score: Gill, Iyer take India to 356 against England

Shubman Gill led India’s charge with a fluent 112, while Virat Kohli (52) and Shreyas Iyer (78) capitalized on ideal batting conditions in their final outing before the Champions Trophy, helping India post a formidable 356 all out in the third and final ODI against England on Wednesday.

Gill anchored the innings with his seventh ODI century—112 off 104 balls, studded with 14 fours and three sixes—pushing his ODI average past 60. The vice-captain stitched together two vital century partnerships, 116 runs with Kohli and 104 with Iyer, to lay a strong foundation. Notably, Gill became the first batter to score a century in all three international formats at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where he has also registered an IPL hundred.

Playing with authority against both pace and spin, Gill showcased exquisite footwork and executed some elegant strokes down the ground before being cleaned up by Adil Rashid (4/64).

Kohli, meanwhile, took his time to find rhythm before growing in confidence. He opened his boundary count with a trademark cover drive off Mark Wood, followed by a controlled pull shot and a crisp cut against Saqib Mahmood. His fluent, run-a-ball 73rd ODI half-century was, however, not without challenges, particularly against Rashid.

On 38, Kohli survived a close leg-before appeal, with replays confirming the ball had pitched just outside the leg stump. But Rashid eventually had the last laugh, dismissing Kohli for the fifth time in ODIs, as a loopy delivery turned away, took the edge, and landed safely in the wicketkeeper’s gloves—just after Kohli had raised his bat for fifty. Kohli fell 37 runs short of becoming only the third batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs, a milestone he is expected to achieve during the Champions Trophy.

Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma (1) failed to make an impact, nicking an angled delivery from Wood to wicketkeeper Phil Salt. Iyer, who looked well on course for a hundred, gifted his wicket away by chasing a delivery down the leg side from Rashid, edging it behind.

Hardik Pandya (17) struck a couple of sixes before falling to Rashid, while KL Rahul provided late impetus with a brisk 40 off 29 balls.

India vs England Live Score: Shubman Gill scripts history

Shubman Gill continued his sublime form in the ODI series against England, becoming the first Indian batter to score a century in his 50th ODI. He achieved this milestone during the third and final match of the series in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

This marked Gill's seventh century in ODIs, making him the fastest batter to reach the landmark in just 50 innings.

His 95-ball hundred carried even more significance as he became only the fifth batter to score a century at the same venue across all three formats. Gill now has centuries in Tests, T20Is, and ODIs at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Faf du Plessis (Wanderers), David Warner (Adelaide Oval), Babar Azam (National Stadium) and Quinton de Kock (Supersport Park) are the other batters to have scored centuries at a venue in all three formats.
