When it comes to weddings, saris remain the quintessential choice for many women, effortlessly blending tradition with elegance. Anupam Chatterjee, a fashion designer and celebrity stylist, says, “The fishtail drape offers a modern, figure-hugging silhouette with a dramatic flare, perfect for evening receptions. The belted drape adds contemporary charm with a sleek belt at the waist, ideal for cocktail parties or sangeet nights. For a regal touch, the double drape layers two contrasting pallus or a dupatta elegantly.”

Nupur Kanoi, a fashion designer, adds, “Give traditional saris a modern twist with the dhoti drape, styled in a dhoti-inspired way with a free-flowing or pinned pallu-perfect for haldi or mehendi when paired with an asymmetrical blouse or cape. For receptions or cocktail parties, opt for the cape drape that pairs a lightweight sari with a sheer or embroidered cape, instead of a blouse.”

Rhea Sharma, who got married last year, tells us, “I wanted to look traditional yet trendy for my wedding functions, and the belted sari drape gave me the best of both worlds. It was comfortable, chic, and garnered so many compliments.”
