Assured minimum support price has led to overproduction of these foodgrains in these two states as granaries overflow with produce few want to buy
KARNAL, HARYANA: Mounds of paddy cover the ground at the vast mandi along the busy highway in Karnal. The procurement season is ending but farmers are still carting in their produce although there are few takers for it now.
Raghubir Singh Lather, a vocal farmer wearing a beige-coloured suit and white shirt, complains he sold his paddy below the minimum support price because the state government deliberately slowed down procurement. Pramod Kumar, another farmer, claims Haryana has had only one day of procurement—October 26—since the state elections got over.
