chennai: tamizhaga rajiv congress (trc) president vazhapadi k ramamurthy on sunday demanded the resignation of the 20 pmk mlas in the tamil nadu assembly in view of the party leaving its pre-poll aiadmk ally and joining the nda. he told a press conference here that 'political decency' required them to resign as they were elected with the support of aiadmk.
with the party now deciding to cast its lot with the nda the mlas should quit and seek re-election, he said. accusing pmk leader dr s ramdoss of being inconsistent in taking important political decisions, ramamurthy also charged ramdoss of mortguaging the interest of the most backward vanniyar community for the interests of his family members. on the centre requisitioning the services of three ips officers, including city police chief muthukaruppan, he said it was a 'unilateral' move and if such a trend continued the federal set-up of the country would crumble. he said that the centre's action, allegedly instigated by the dmk, would adversely affect the centre-state relationship. earlier, an executive committee meeting of the vanniyar sangam of which ramamurthy is the patron adopted a resolution demanding reservation of seats in educational institutions for backward class communities all over the country.
