SRINAGAR: Nalin Prabhat, a 1992-batch IPS officer of
Andhra Pradesh cadre, took over as Jammu and Kashmir DGP on Wednesday following the retirement of R R Swain on Tuesday.
Union home ministry had announced Prabhat’s appointment as J&K DGP in Aug, cutting short his tenure as National Security Guard (NSG) DG. Known for his extensive background in counter-insurgency operations as head of Greyhounds, an elite anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh, Prabhat was serving J&K as special DGP since Aug 16.
Before his two-and-a-half-month stint as NSG DG, the 55-year-old highly decorated police officer with three gallantry medals and Parakram Padak served CRPF as additional DG, heading the paramilitary formation in J&K.
