BIJNOR: A 24-year-old man, Rahul Kumar, fought off a leopard with a stick to save his father, Kartar Singh (50), who was attacked while harvesting sugarcane in Chaudheri village of UP's Bijnor on Saturday. During the brief struggle, both sustained serious injuries.
Hearing the two men scream for help, nearly a dozen farmers working in nearby fields rushed to the spot, located near a forested area. The leopard fled the scene. The injured were admitted to a local community health centre from where they were shifted to district hospital.
Forest department said on Sunday that they suspect the same leopard injured two villagers - three days ago and killed a woman last month. A cage has been set up to capture the female leopard, as pug marks suggest it has cubs.
Bijnor divisional forest officer Gyan Singh said, "We have set up cages to catch the big cat. Earlier, two leopards were caught by the forest department in Chandpur. They were sent to the zoo."
