NEW DELHI: The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on Saturday said the Chandrayaan-3 mission has successfully completed two of its three main objectives.

In a post on X, Isro said Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram has accomplished a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface, while the rover Pragyan has successfully roamed about on the Moon's surface.


The last objective remaining is the carrying out of in-situ scientific experiments, which is "underway".

Isro added that all payloads are performing normally.

Earlier in the day, Isro released a new video showing the rover, Pragyan, navigating the lunar surface.

"Pragyan rover roams around Shiv Shakti Point in pursuit of lunar secrets at the South Pole!" the space agency posted on X (formerly Twitter).


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who met the Isro scientists in Bengaluru on Saturday, announced that Chandrayaan-3's landing point on the Moon would from now on be known as 'Shiv Shakti Point'. He also announced that August 23, the date of the Moon landing, would be observed as National Space Day
