After months of will they, won't they, cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and singer/choreographer Dhanashree Verma have decided to part ways. The duo were seen at a Mumbai court yesterday, where they arrived separately for the proceedings, all masked up. Even though the duo did not talk to the media, the cricketer's lawyer confirmed the divorce, saying that the marriage now stands dissolved. The divorce process was expedited by the Bombay High Court, due to Chahal's IPL commitments that start later this month.
Earlier, the now former couple did not make their breakup insta official, but their family had confirmed that the duo are indeed going their separate ways. The reason behind their decision largely remains unclear.
While at court, Yuzvendra, was seen dressed in all black, including a jacket, which he later removed to reveal his t-shirt with the slogan saying, "Be your own sugar daddy." While this might have been a coincidence, netizens could not help but wonder if this is a dig at Dhanashree, who was rumoured to have demanded a huge alimony from the cricketer, a claim that her family later refuted.
Regardless, let's take a look at what this expression actually means.
First off let's start by understanding the term sugar daddy. In layman language, a sugar daddy (or mommy, though the former is more popular), is a wealthy, older man who is either in a platonic or sexual relationship with a girl much younger than him. In exchange for spending time with that man, the girl is showered with expensive gifts, holidays and the like. In Western countries, it is not uncommon to have 'sugar daddies' who even pitch in for education loans etc for their supposed 'girlfriends.'
What does 'be your own sugar daddy' mean? This expression, which coins its name from the above, means that in this world of sugar daddies, one should be his/her own sugar daddy, which translates into being financially independent, and not being obliged to anyone else for the same. Whether Yuzvendra Chahal was trying to make a statement with this tee or not is not clear yet, but it has indeed got everyone talking.
More on Yuzvendra Chahal-Dhanashree Verma's divorceAs stated earlier, the reasons behind the divorce remain unclear, but according to reports, the duo had not been staying together since the last 18 months. In the interim, there were also rumours of Yuzvendra Chahal's closeness with Rj Mahvash, who even came to see one of his matches, and the duo were photographed. However, the exact nature of their relationship is up in the air. On the other hand, Dhanashree has been busy with her music and dance career, and recently promoted her brand new song Dekha Ji Dekha Maine, that incidentally talks about extra-marital affairs! The song co-stars actor Ishwak Singh.
