What if you could become the animal you’ve always dreamed of being– if only for a few hours? A Japanese man has found a way to turn this fantasy into a reality. Imagine putting on a hyper-realistic dog costume, living, moving, and even interacting like a dog. For one man in Japan, this childhood wish has come true, and now, he’s offering others the chance to experience the same transformation.
According to the reports presented by media sources, Toco, a man from Saitama Prefecture, has taken his unique passion for becoming a dog and turned it into a business by renting out his life-like costumes. It’s an idea so out-of-the-box, it’s already sparking worldwide interest and attention. So, how did one man's dream of living as a dog become the latest trending venture? Here's how.
Toco's unusual dreamFor as long as he can remember, Toco has wanted to be a dog. Media reports suggest that he took his dream a step further by investing 2 million yen (about ₹10.8 lakh) in a custom-made Collie dog costume. Created by a company that specializes in film props, the suit is incredibly detailed, with movable paws, a tail, and a mouth. It weighs 4 kg and allows Toco to move and act like a real dog.
As per media reports, over time, Toco perfected dog-like behaviours, including tricks such as shaking hands, rolling over, and even catching frisbees. He even spends time with real dogs while wearing the costume, fully embracing his dog-like nature.
From dream to business ventureSeeing the interest in his transformation, Toco decided to share his experience with others. As per reports, in January, he began offering the rental of a second, even more detailed, costume: an Alaskan Malamute. This suit is fluffier and more detailed and complex than the first, giving others the chance to experience life as a dog just as Toco does.
Toco’s website explains the service by asking visitors, “Have you ever wanted to be an animal? Have you ever imagined yourself as something other than yourself and felt excited? We offer a service that can help make that wish come true.”
How the rental service worksAccording to the reports, Toco’s rental service has already gained attention, with people eager to try out the experience. The rental options are priced at 49,000 yen (₹26,500) for 3 hours, and 36,000 yen (₹19,500) for 2 hours. Customers must book the costume at least 30 days in advance. Despite the high price, the demand has been high, with February’s slots already fully booked.
Media reports suggest that many of Toco’s followers have expressed gratitude for the opportunity to live out their own dreams. One person said, “When I was very little, every time someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say ‘I want to be a wolf!’ And I would get very sad when adults told me it wasn’t possible. Thank you for making these dreams come true.”
A lighthearted discussion onlineAs per reports, the news has led to some amusing responses on social media, particularly from users in China. Some playfully speculated about turning into different animals, such as koalas or jellyfish. One user joked, “Can I be a monkey on Mount Emei? Do nothing all day, and if I’m in a bad mood, I can even slap tourists.”
