The news was announced by Alina Habba, the Interim US Attorney for the District of New Jersey, who is also a former defense attorney for the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump.
Habba took to X (formerly, Twitter) to post, “The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon.”
Baraka was released on Friday night, shortly after 8 pm, and he told his supporters after stepping out of an SUV with flashing emergency lights: “The reality is this: I didn’t do anything wrong.”
