The Princess of Wales once again captured the public’s attention with her latest Mother’s Day message. Instead of the traditional family portrait with her three children, Kate, 43, shared a nature-themed video featuring her and Prince William, 42, enjoying the outdoors in Norfolk last summer. The footage, which was shot by filmmaker Will Warr, showed stunning landscapes across the UK and included a heartfelt statement from Kate celebrating “our bond with the natural world.”
However, while the video focused on the beauty of nature, eagle-eyed royal watchers noticed something unexpected—a potential new addition to the Wales family.
A mystery companion
As Kate was seen gently touching the bark of a tree and William walked barefoot through a sunlit field, their faithful black Cocker Spaniel, Orla, trotted alongside them. But fans were quick to spot another canine companion—a brown Cocker Spaniel appearing beside Orla, fueling speculation that the family may have quietly welcomed another pet.

Social media buzzed with excitement. “Princess Catherine has a new puppy,” one user observed, while another commented, “Guys, Orla has a new brother or sister.” A third person chimed in, saying, “I noticed that last year on the video, but it never got traction.”
The second dog’s identity remains a mystery. Some believe it could belong to Carole and Michael Middleton, who were present when the footage was recorded. Others also suggest the pup might be from Kate’s brother, James Middleton who is a well-known dog enthusiast and experienced Cocker Spaniel breeder.
The royals and their love for pets
It’s no secret that the British royal family has a long history with beloved pets. Queen Elizabeth II was famous for her corgis. She reportedly had over 30 corgis, with the last four dogs at the time of her death being two Pembroke Welsh corgis (Muick and Sandy), a Dorgi (Candy), and a cocker spaniel (Lissy). Over the years, various members of the family have kept numerous dogs and horses. Prince William and Kate have continued this tradition, welcoming Orla into their home in 2021 when she was just eight months old.
Before Orla, they had an English Cocker Spaniel named Lupo, who was often seen at public events like polo matches and even appeared in Prince George’s baby photos and a portrait marking his third birthday. Lupo, a cherished member of their family, sadly passed away in November 2020 at the age of nine.

More than just dogs
Beyond their canine companions, the Wales household is home to a variety of pets. The family reportedly keeps chickens, and they once had a pet hamster named Marvin. During a visit to Woodgate Valley Urban Farm in Birmingham, Prince William revealed another detail about their animal-loving household: they also have guinea pigs.
“These guys are pretty cool,” he said while helping a child groom a guinea pig at the farm. “We've got guinea pigs at home and they're not like this.” He then admitted, “I spend my life cleaning out the guinea pig cage because the children forget to do it.”
The Prince added humorously, “The ones we've got at home, they're off. You have to keep them constantly stroked and looked after.”
