In a diplomatic masterstroke, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined U.S. President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social. For his first post, Modi shared a throwback picture from the ‘Howdy Modi’ event. His caption read: "Looking forward to interacting with the passionate voices here and engaging in meaningful conversations in the time to come."
The move comes as Trump himself engaged with Modi’s online presence, sharing a link to the Indian leader’s podcast conversation with AI researcher Lex Fridman. In response, Modi thanked Trump and emphasized the key themes he covered: "Thank you, my friend, President Trump. I’ve covered a wide range of topics, including my life journey, India’s civilizational outlook, global issues, and more."

During the podcast, which ran for more than 3 hours, PM Modi talked at length about his dynamics with the US President. Modi remarking on Trump’s resilience after the assassination attempt said, “Even after an assassination bid, he showed no fear and remained unwaveringly dedicated to America. His life was for his nation. His reflection showed his America First spirit, just as I believe in Nation First. I stand for India first, and that’s why we connect so well.”

What is Truth Social?

Truth Social is a social media platform launched in 2022 by former U.S. President Donald Trump. It was created as a response to his bans from mainstream social media sites, particularly Twitter (now X), which had been his preferred communication platform before it suspended him in 2021.
The app is operated by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) and closely resembles Twitter in both design and functionality. Although Elon Musk reinstated Trump’s account on X after acquiring the company in 2022, Trump has continued to use Truth Social as his primary platform.
