Karnataka MLA Ravi Kumar Gowda Ganiga has come forward to clarify his remarks about actress
Rashmika Mandanna after facing backlash. His comments, which stirred controversy and raised concerns within the Kodava community, led to calls for the actress’s security.
The controversy erupted after Ravi Kumar Gowda Ganiga reportedly stated that
Rashmika "must be taught a lesson" for not attending a state-organised Bengaluru International Film Festival.
However, following the backlash, Ravi explained his stance in a recent conversation with ANI. "When I said that I would teach her a lesson, I meant life lessons, but I did not mean to attack her. I said, ‘Do not kick the ladder you have climbed,’” he shared.
He further justified his statement, emphasising that his words were intended as a reminder of the significance of acknowledging one’s roots. "Rashmika Mandanna did not come when invited to our state programme. I told her that she grew up eating state food, so she should stand up for it," Gowda stated.
Dismissing claims that his remarks were personal attacks, the MLA reiterated his stance on respecting Karnataka’s culture. “I stand by my words. Our state, our land, and the Kannada language must be respected,” he stated, adding that he has also watched Rashmika’s films.

The issue gained momentum following reports that Rashmika had declined an invitation to the International Film Festival in Karnataka. The MLA alleged that, despite her early career in the Kannada film industry with Kirik Party, she had distanced herself from the state’s heritage. He further claimed that Rashmika had remarked, "I don't know where Karnataka is, and I don't have time," which intensified the backlash.
Amid the controversy, the Kodava National Council (KNC) intervened, raising concerns about Rashmika’s safety. The organisation, which represents the indigenous Kodava community, condemned the remarks and urged authorities to ensure protection for the actress.
KNC President N. U. Nachappa strongly denounced the threats against Rashmika, emphasising that she had earned her place in the film industry through talent and perseverance. The Council also addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Karnataka’s State Home Minister G. Parameshwar, urging them to take appropriate action to safeguard Rashmika. A formal complaint was reportedly submitted by the Kodava community, denouncing the MLA’s comments and calling for immediate intervention.
Meanwhile, Rashmika Mandanna is gearing up for the release of 'Sikandar' alongside
Salman Khan.
