Nayanthara-Dhanush copyright dispute intensifies with new allegations
The ongoing copyright dispute between Nayanthara and Dhanush has taken a more complex turn. The issue began when Dhanush accused Nayanthara of using behind-the-scenes footage from the sets of 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan' a film produced by Dhanush's Wunderbar Films, without obtaining permission for its inclusion in her documentary. This unauthorized usage led to a legal confrontation, further intensifying their differences. Recent developments have heightened the tension, with Dhanush opting to proceed with the primary lawsuit. Represented by Wunderbar Films, he is seeking damages of Rs 10 crore from Nayanthara and the makers of the documentary. This move follows the court's rejection of an interim injunction plea, which sought to halt the documentary's release. Despite the case being sub judice, the documentary was launched, prompting Dhanush to escalate the legal proceedings.
Adding fuel to the fire, Dhanush's affidavit filed on behalf of Wunderbar Films includes allegations of unprofessional conduct against Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan. According to Pinkvilla, the affidavit claims that Vignesh displayed bias during the shooting of 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan,' focusing excessively on Nayanthara’s scenes. It alleges that he neglected other actors and prioritized retakes for Nayanthara to ensure she delivered the best performance. The statement read, "The fourth respondent (Mr. Vignesh Shivan) unnecessarily began focusing his attention only on the third respondent (Ms. Nayanthara), ignoring the other cast and crew of the movie by taking multiple retakes of scenes involving the third respondent to ensure that only she gives her best performance, without prioritizing the other actors."
The primary hearing for the case is scheduled for April 9, 2025. As legal proceedings continue, the industry and fans are closely watching the developments, anticipating the outcome of this high-profile dispute.
Meanwhile on the work front, Dhanush's recent directorial outing was the romantic drama movie 'NEEK'. Receiving mixed reviews from the audiences, and also due to tough competition from 'Dragon', the Dhanush's directorial minted only mediocre numbers at the box office.
