Actor-director Madhupal’s latest flick 'Ozhimuri', scripted by Njan Kadavul scribe Jaimohan, is a story set in the region where Kerala and Tamil Nadu cultures intertwine. “This land, its people and culture have been ignored and uncared for, and this is the concept that we have tried to bring in the movie. We are trying to explore the social behaviour of the people here and their perspective of life which is connected to the rich past of the region,” says Madhupal.
The director promises this would enlighten about the people and the forgotten culture of the region which has only been showcased in flicks such as 'Marthanda Varma' in 1933, 'Velu Thambi Dalawa' in 1962, 'Kulam' in 1997 and 'Nizhalkuthu' in 2002. 'Ozhimuri' stars
Lal,
Asif Ali,
Shweta Menon,
Bhavana and
Mallika in the lead and is a satirical family-drama, which is currently being filmed in Padmananbhapuram and Nagercoil.
Besides, the State Award-winning director has also roped in 68 new faces, all who have been handpicked from the region on the basis of their accent and body language. “We wanted to bring in authenticity as this is a purely regional film. Every story has a particular topography and we wanted to maintain it,” explains the director.
The film also marks the second time that Madhupal has chosen to work with Lal after their previous venture, 'Thalappavu', fetched the actor a State Award. “Lal is an actor, director, scriptwriter and a producer, which makes working with him all the more easy and enriching to the total filmmaking process,” opines Madhupal.
"The movie will also see Asif Ali, Bhavana and Mallika play powerful characters that would give an impetus to the careers," promises the director.
