Nikita Thukral is turning producer with a film starring Vijay and Aditya in the lead...
At a time when Sandalwood’s leading men are still preoccupied with furthering their acting careers, it may seem surprising that their female counterparts are widening their horizons and looking at making films. First it was Rakshita, who announced a film with Shivanna in the lead, Radhika followed suit with a project featuring Ramya. Following in their footsteps is Nikita Thukral, who’s turning producer for her next flick.
But while Rakshita and Radhika became filmmakers after domestic duties saw them bow out of acting, Nikita will take the path while she’s still at it. “I’m the heroine of this film. I don’t need to quit acting just because I’m producing the movie. I will continue to act for as long as I can,” maintains Nikita. Her decision to channel her money into this film comes from wanting to help friend and director Om Prakash Rao realize a good project. “Some time ago, Om discussed this project with me. He said that he wanted to direct the film. Then he asked, ‘Why don’t you produce the film?’, to which I said ok,” explains the actor. The film will go on the floors on September 5 and will star Duniya Vijay and Aditya in the lead, along with Nikita.
Is she turning producer, and that too with a film that she’s starring in, because her career hasn’t been on the upswing? The actor insists that’s not the case and claims that she’s become more choosy about the projects she takes on. “I’ve had my share of good projects with Sandalwood’s top heroes. In fact, my last few outings have been with actors like Darshan and Ravichandran. The offers are plenty. I’m just taking time and only working on those projects that excite me. I am producing a film because I loved the story, not because I don’t have any offers in hand. I believe, though, that actors making films is a good sign,” she states. As if to prove her point, Nikita adds that she’s got two projects in Kannada, Kattan Pete with Aditya and Sangoli Rayyana opposite Darshan, one film each in Tamil and Telugu and an offer from Mollywood.
But does she think she is qualified to handle the reins of making a film? “I won’t claim that I know it all, but I do know how much money is involved in making a Kannada movie. I’ve done my homework. Om’s also been guiding me about production,” says Nikita. Contributed by Mahesh H
