After green signal from the State government, the entertainment industry is set to resume films, serials and web series shoots, but on the other hand theater artistes are still waiting for permission to stage plays in auditorium.
Though it will take some more time to open auditoriums and stage plays, actor-producer
Sunil Barve has already given a reason to come back to auditoriums.
He is reviving a classic play ‘Suryachi Pille’ once again.
At the first, the play was staged in 1978. Directed by Damu Kenkre, the play featured Madhav Vatve, Bal Karve, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Mohan Gokhale, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Shanta Jog. Later the shows were discontinued. But it was actor Sunil who revived the play as a part of project 'Herbarium', in 2010. In the project Sunil Barve revived five plays from golden period of Marathi theatre from 1960-1985. The list of plays include Suryachi Pille, Lahanpan Dega Deva, Hamidabaichi Kothi and Zhopi Gelela Jaga Zhala.
“Suryachi Pille got huge response in 2010 and presently all actors who were in the play are there. We are yet to know when will auditorium open for the shows but we are preparing for the play. After the auditorium will open, there will be some hesitation among audience. But we need to start somewhere, and this play will give more reason to come back to auditorium,” Sunil informed. Revived version of the play in 2010 featured Uday Sabnis, Pushkar Shotri, Aniket Vishwasrao and Aatisha Naik.
According to him it’s a evergreen comedy play which was applauded by the audience, “Live performance like play will help the audience to overcome the negativity caused by the pandemic and lockdown. And this is the main reason to choose the play. During Harbarium, we staged many plays but considering situation I thought of Suryachi Pille will be appropriate to start with. We are in talks with concern people and soon everything will be finalized.
