Actress Sonali Kulkarni will be returning to Marathi commercial theatre after about a decade with the play White Lily Aani Night Rider. After actress Rasika Joshi passed away in 2011, many wondered who would step into her shoes for the critically acclaimed and award winning play which was co-written and co-directed by her along with co-star
Milind Pathak.
It came as a surprise that Sonali was selected to play the part.
'Fortunately the play doesn't have a fixed structure and it moulds according to the characters. We have modified the script to suit Sonali. Besides, a lot has changed in the last few years. We have incorporated new patterns of conversations and characterisation has also changed a lot,' said Pathak.
Sonali said, 'I will be performing the character a little differently as I cannot ape Rasika. In fact, nobody can ape her.'
In the past, Sonali has done commercial plays like
Basant Ka Yauvan, Sar Sar Sarla I and
Sar Sar Sarla II. 'I am doing a commercial play after a very long time. This play comments on the IQ and EQ of today's generation,' said Sonali.
