Siddhant Sawant who is well-known for his short films Fortune (2014) and Khwaish (A Wish) (2019), is all set to make his debut as a director with the upcoming Marathi film 'Aathvani'.
In an exclusive chat with Etimes, Siddhant Sawant shared, "It's a two-hour length feature film and my experience on the film as a debut director was amazing. So it was a great experience, of course, no doubt.
We had a great time shooting, I had an amazing crew, I had one of the best people working with me, all my old friends and my colleagues who I worked with in the past, all the friends I assisted and some of them were new. This was my first feature film and also in the Marathi industry. I've never worked in the Marathi industry, I worked most of the time in Bollywood. So making a first-time Marathi film was a little difficult because the initial days of my hiring the right people took a little while but eventually through some nice contacts and connections I was able to build up a good team who helped me make this film and it was a great experience."
"We had a great time shooting. It was a 20-day shoot schedule but having good actors and good technicians on board we were able to shoot the film in 19 days. We did our homework very well, shot breakdowns and the rest of the things and we also took a workshop with the actors. So those workshops helped because we didn't waste time shooting on the floor when we were shooting. I am the editor. I don't depend on any editor as such because when I write the film when I write screenplay I usually write it with the edit pattern in my head. So I wanted to edit the film myself. That's why I didn't get any editor on the board. So that was also one experience which was very tough but good and a great experience" Sawant added.
"I think getting an opportunity to direct Dr
Mohan Agashe and
Suhas Joshi in your debut directorial is like a dream come true moment. They are very senior actors and working with them gave us a great opportunity to learn a lot of things from their end. They changed a lot of dialogue. They changed a few nuances and emotions from what I had written in the screenplay. But when they changed it, they changed it for the better. Whatever I had written for them, they made it a little one-notch top. They knew the dialogues which they altered from their end. They took it one level up. So it was better than what we wrote. So we learned a lot from them about writing, about you know, acting, about direction. And they were very, they knew as Mohan sir and
Suhas madam both knew that as we knew, I mean, it was my first film, they were extremely cooperative and extremely patient, which was a very big deal for me" Sawant Concluded.
