Shame on you: VK Prakash lashes out at Alphonse Puthren
Director VK Prakash in his latest post has lashed out against filmmaker Alphonse Puthren, saying that the Premam director showed “complete disrespect towards his own profession”. VK Prakash’s comments came after a video clip of Alphonse’s interview a few years ago had been doing rounds, in which the Premam director attacked VK Prakash and Anoop Menon’s movie Trivandrum Lodge.
The video clip of the interview, which was apparently from 2013 after Alphonse had helmed Neram, had the director talking about new-gen films and profanity.

“I think only about three films had profanity. The problem was giving a U certificate to Trivandrum Lodge that had a few ‘A’ dialogues. We should ask the censor board why they gave it a U certificate. After that is Hotel California… Anoop Menon’s movies have this ‘A’ label. Aashiq Abu’s movies don’t have it neither does Samir Thahir or Vineeth Sreenivasan’s. Anoop Menon’s movies aren’t the only ones that belong to the new-generation films… The issue happened because it was given a U certificate. Why go and watch such films with families?... There are good movies and those are what changed Malayalam cinema. Just because of these 3-4 movies, people say Malayalam cinema’s level has sunk. I don’t agree with them,” said Alphonse in the interview.
VK Prakash, who saw the clip of the interview two days ago, wrote a scathing post, explaining his side of the story and what he thought about Alphonse’s comments.
“Just saw one interview of this great man. I don’t know when it came out… I felt I should react. Normally, I don’t get involved in these stupid conversations but I genuinely felt I should. It’s for the good of the other directors, who are not popular on social media. (I want) to confirm that Trivandrum Lodge is not a U certificate film and it’s UA and at that point of time the censor officer had clarified that why that film is given UA certificate. I disagree with his comments on other directors' films because I can point out then as a director, how can one cinema be known on the director's name and other films on writer’s name. Complete disrespect towards his own profession…. It shouldn’t be on popularity, it should be with the work my friend. Shame on you,” wrote VK Prakash, adding, “Alphonse Puthren please understand I don’t know when this interview came out but whenever it was, it was bad”.
