Deepak turns ‘Sasi’ in his next project

Deepak turns ‘Sasi’ in his next project
His role as a fiery communist in Vineeth’s Thattathin Marayathu grabbed eyeballs. Later, he went on to act in a slew of movies but most of the characters he did were as different as chalk and cheese. The latest we hear is that Deepak has bagged a role in Basil Joseph’s Kunjiramayanam, in which he shares screen space with Vineeth and Dhyan Sreenivasan.

“My character is that of a village lad, Kunjuttan aka Sasi, who has a number of nicknames in his village. He is the owner of a pappadam shop and is known by the name ‘kindi Sasi’ . He is a simpleton who loves to booze in the evening, that’s alI I can reveal about my character,” he says. The actor adds that he is elated to share screen space with Vineeth, whom he considers his guru in the film industry.
“I didn’t have any acting experience and owe my career in films to Vineeth ettan. It was he who offered me a role in his debut directorial venture Malarvadi Arts Club. An acting workshop was held for all the cast members, which helped me in my later projects,” says Deepak. “Even after years, people recognise me as ‘Sakhavu’ Rajesh, my character in Thattathin Marayathu. Later, I went on to act as the lead in Nellikka and John Paul Vaathil Thurakkunnu. But being a part of a good cinema is all that matters to me, not the length of the role,” he says.
Deepak will also be seen in director Ranjith’s upcoming Mohanlal-starrer Loham. “It’s a small role and I act alongside Aju Varghese in the movie. I won’t be sharing screen space with Mohanlal but I am happy that I could be a small part of his movie. Like any other Lalettan fan, I was over the moon when I managed to click a photo with him,” says a beaming Deepak.
