Mohanlal starrer 'L2: Empuraan', directed by
Prithviraj Sukumaran, continues to perform steadily at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews. The film, a sequel to the blockbuster 'Lucifer', is a political action drama film and is maintaining a strong presence in theatres across multiple languages.

According to a report by trade analyst Sacnilk, the movie made over Rs 13.50 crore on the third day of its release as per the early estimates, which brings the film's total collection to Rs 46 crore in India.

The film's Malayalam version remains the strongest performer, with an overall occupancy of 54.24 percent on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Night shows recorded the highest turnout at 65.32 percent, followed by evening shows at 58.61 percent. The Telugu version had a modest occupancy of 14.08 percent, while Tamil screenings saw better traction with a 24.96 percent overall occupancy. The Hindi version struggled with an occupancy rate of just 6.76 percent.
The story begins with communal riots in Kerala, reflecting how religious sentiments are manipulated for political gain. Jathin Ramdas played by Tovino Thomas, the estranged son of PK Ramdas, emerges as a rogue leader who joins an extremist party led by Bajrangi Baba. His rise threatens Kerala's political stability. Mohanlal is reprising his role as Stephen Nedumpally.
'L2: Empuraan' also features Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Abhimanyu Singh, and Sachin Khedekar.
While the film opened to record-breaking advance bookings and strong initial collections, fans have shared some inconsistencies in pacing and storytelling. However, the film has also received praise for Mohanlal's commanding performance and Prithviraj's direction for delivering grand visuals and intense drama.
The film will be facing stiff competition from Salaman Khan starrer 'Sikandar'.
