Kannada comedy film Mr Rani, starring
Deepak Subramanya and Parvati Nair, directed by
Madhu Chandra, is releasing on Friday (February 7). The plot revolves around Raja (played by Deepak), who is passionate about acting. His love for the craft deepens as he grows older, but his parents want him to pursue engineering. Madhu says that the inspiration for the film is from the story of every home. “I have seen people who aspire to become actors end up being something else,” he says, adding that this was a story relatable to many.
About the story, he says, “Raja goes against his parents’ wishes and bags his first movie, but his role is of a female protagonist called Rani. The character becomes a hit and he continues to impersonate a female actor on screen. But he soon hits a wall in his journey when he decides to express his love to Deepika (played by Parvati Nair), also a popular actor. The twist in the story comes when Raja realises that a movie director is also in love with him, as he thinks Raja is a woman. This leads to some hilarious bits in the film,” the director shares, adding that Deepak was very dedicated and gave his all to nail the nuances and complexities of playing a woman.
As for the techincal aspect of the film, Madhu says, “There are animation fights which have the quality of Hollywood films. For the first time, we have used digital make up in Sandalwood. I hope all his hard work will pay off as the content will reverberate among audiences.”
