You’ve heard of Kanglish, but a new movie by Ravindra HP Das (of I Am Sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona fame) and director Priya Belliappa will see the characters speak in Kandi — Kannada and Hindi. The yet-to-be-titled movie is being made by Priya and Ravindra under the Cinema Mane production house banner and revolves around a woman who is new to Bengaluru and can’t speak Kannada.
“Since she is not from Bengaluru, the protagonist in the movie speaks in Hindi and the others that she interacts with speak in Kannada. It is a realistic movie that will shed light on what happens to people who go to a new city, how they deal with the language barrier and the changes that they have to deal with. The film taps into the work culture in Bengaluru today, and how, in many offices, you are likely to find more people from outside the city than those born and brought up here,” says Priya.
Tara and
Suhasini Maniratnam are being considered for one of the characters, and the rest of the star cast will be finalized soon. Priya is currently working on the screenplay with Ravindra and shooting is slated to begin by month-end.
