Sunil Dutt and
Nargis were among Bollywood’s most iconic real-life couples, known for their deep love, successful careers, and contributions to
Indian cinema. Their love story, which began on the sets of Mother India, remains legendary. However, their journey together was cut short when Nargis passed away in 1981 due to pancreatic cancer, leaving a huge void in Dutt’s life.
In an old interview with actress and talk show host Tabassum, Sunil Dutt opened up about how life changed for him after losing his beloved wife. He admitted that he never imagined being able to live without her but somehow found a way to carry on.
Dutt shared his emotions, saying, “I can’t express how I feel about this. People often think that they won’t be able to survive after losing someone they love. I used to think the same, but now, here I am, still living.”
He also spoke about a song from Mother India that often came to his mind. Without naming it directly, he hinted at Duniya Mein Hum Aaye Hain Toh Jeena Padega, a song that Nargis herself had performed in the film. He found a deep connection to its lyrics, which reflect the reality of life moving forward despite personal loss.
Even though Nargis was no longer by his side, Sunil Dutt continued to honor her memory. He dedicated much of his life to social work, including setting up the Nargis Dutt Foundation, which supports cancer patients. His love for her remained evident in his words and actions, proving that true love never fades, even in absence.
Sunil Dutt’s heartfelt words about coping with loss continue to resonate with many, serving as a reminder of the strength it takes to move forward while carrying the love and memories of those we have lost.
