When Somy Ali revealed Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani's breakup was due to infidelity: 'She caught us red-handed in my apartment'

Salman Khan and Sangeeta Bijlani's relationship was one of the most talked-about celebrity romances in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their love story seemed headed for a fairy-tale ending when they got engaged in 1994. However, just days before their wedding, the relationship took an unexpected turn, and the wedding was called off.
In a throwback interview, Somy Ali, who was also romantically involved with Salman during the 1990s, revealed the reason behind the split between Salman and Sangeeta. Somy claimed that Sangeeta ended the relationship after catching Salman cheating on her with Somy herself.
Somy shared with Shubhankar Mishra, “The wedding cards were printed, but Sangeeta caught Salman red-handed in my apartment. He was with me. What Salman did to Sangeeta, the same happened to me. This is called karma. When I grew up a little, I understood about it.”

Somy also spoke about the dark side of her relationship with Salman, revealing how he had physically abused her under the guise of love and care. She referred to a past interview where she had infamously said, “Salman hits me because he cares,” explaining that at the time, she believed his actions were a twisted expression of love. Somy now realizes how misguided that perspective was, admitting that she was "very foolish" to mistake abuse for affection.
Somy's entry into Bollywood was closely tied to her association with Salman, which helped her gain visibility in the industry. Despite the initial attention, like many celebrity relationships, their romance was tumultuous, and eventually, their differences led to a breakup.
