Sulochana Latkar passed away yesterday at the age of 94. She was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai as she was suffering from respiratory complications. Her funeral will be held later today in Prabhadevi, Mumbai.
Sulochana Latkar was her stage name, while she was christened Rangu Diwan by her parents. She started her acting career with small roles and all kinds of bit roles in Marathi and Hindi films.
She considered filmmaker Bhalji Pendharkar as her guru. Sulochana's most popular roles came in the 60s and 70s when she played mother to most Hindi film heroes and heroines.
Sulochana's daughter Kanchan was married to acclaimed actor
Kashinath Ghanekar, who passed away in 1986. Sulochana's family will hold her funeral at Prabhamandir in South Mumbai. Her family feels she deserved the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which wasn't awarded to her during her lifetime.
She started working in the 1940s and has 260 films to her credit. Some of her notable films were Aasha Khoon Bhari Maang, Kati Patang, Dharmatma and Gora Aur Kaala.
