Shahid Kapoor opens up about working with family members: ‘Not a good idea’

Shahid Kapoor has opened up about his reluctance to work with family members in films, despite previously sharing screen space with his father, veteran actor Pankaj Kapur, in Jersey and Mausam. The actor, who has spent over two decades in the industry, believes that keeping work and family separate is the best approach to avoid unnecessary complications.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama about his perspective, the 'Kabir Singh' star emphasised that professional collaborations with close family members can often lead to emotional challenges. He admitted that the risk of hurting feelings is one of the main reasons he prefers to maintain a boundary between personal and professional life. While Pankaj Kapur and his younger brother, Ishaan Khatter, are also actors, Shahid has no immediate plans to work with them again.
Despite this stance on family collaborations, the actor values the opinions of his loved ones when it comes to his performances. He revealed that his mother, veteran actress Neliima Azeem, and his wife, Mira Rajput, are the only two people whose feedback he truly trusts. “It’s always the women in your life who are brutally honest about your work,” he remarked. Shahid appreciates their candor, believing that their insights help him grow as an actor.
Interestingly, Mira Rajput has a soft spot for Jab We Met, one of Shahid’s most beloved films. The actor revealed that she frequently watches the film and playfully complains that he is nothing like his charming on-screen persona, Aditya Kashyap. Shahid humorously shared that she often scolds him for not embodying even “five percent” of the character’s personality. On the other hand, he jokes that she should be relieved that he isn’t even a fraction like Kabir Singh, another of his iconic yet controversial roles.
