She may have not been able to make her presence felt on the silver screen the way audience expected her to post Lagaan’s success, but that doesn’t make Gracy Singh less choosy. Despite the fact that not many projects are in her kitty, she is still looking forward to doing only quality roles. And item numbers are certainly not on her wish list. “Item numbers are not my cup of tea,” says the actress on her recent visit to Allahabad where she had come to perform at a college fest, adding, “You see, you get a movie like
Lagaan once in lifetime.
I got one and managed to get appreciation for my work in that movie. I’ve set up a standard for the kind of roles I want to do. Moreover, I am a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and my dance performances are related to Krishna Leela and reflect Indian culture, so, item numbers would not suit my image.”
At the same time the actress says she has nothing against item numbers in general. “Item songs are different type of entertainment which has become important part of movies today. I have nothing against them but I think I am not ready to do them as of now. ”
Dig her a little more regarding her film outings and she clarifies with smile, “My dance performances are my passion and because of them I am required to travel a lot, which leaves me with very little time to focus on other things. That’s why I don’t do more than one or two movies a year.”
She adds, “Besides, I have also started working for regional movies including Telugu, Punjabi, Kannada and Malayalam. But I am doing one, The blue Mountains, it has a lot of new people and is based on the Indian reality shows and talks about the people who participate in it.”
