Priyanka Chopra was initially considered for the lead role in
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 'Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela', but he had to choose
Deepika Padukone at the last minute. He later selected PeeCee for the dance number 'Ram Chahe Leela', which became a hit track. Now, Priyanka’s mother,
Madhu Chopra, has revealed that the 'Citadel' actress handled the replacement gracefully.
In an interview with Lehren Retro, Madhu Chopra recalled how Priyanka came home and mentioned that she was only doing a song in the film. “When she came back, she said, ‘I am only doing a song in Ram-Leela.’ I asked her, ‘What happened?’ She said, ‘I think that’s better’,” she reminisced.

Madhu further suggested that Priyanka’s decision was likely a well-thought-out one. She believes that they might have had a cordial discussion since they remain friends. When asked about Bhansali’s concerns regarding Mary Kom, the filmmaker reportedly worried that Priyanka might still hold a grudge over Ram-Leela. However, her mother dismissed this notion, explaining, “She doesn’t have a vengeful attitude. She did the film because Sanjay asked her to. Omung (Kumar) was the director, and she stayed with 'Mary Kom' for a while to observe everything.”
Priyanka later portrayed Kashibai in Bhansali’s '
Bajirao Mastani'. Madhu recalled the challenges of the role and how Bhansali’s direction demands meeting certain benchmarks.
On the work front, Priyanka recently wrapped up shooting for 'Citadel Season 2', 'The Bluff', and 'Heads of State'. There are rumours that the actress may collaborate with SS Rajamouli for his next film with Mahesh Babu.
