British director Danny Boyle might have paid the most lucrative tribute to Mumbai with his film, Slumdog Millionaire, but it isnt as if Delhi didnt impress him. On a short promotional visit here, along with the cast and crew of the film, Danny couldnt help but admire how green Delhi was, even after an exhausting day parrying questions and giving interviews.
Theres so much greenery in Delhi, isnt it? Its amazing, he said, looking out of his hotel room window.
Mumbai is an island. Like New York... Its straight and narrow and more and more people pour into it. I didnt know that I was astonished to find out. Did you know that? he asked Simon Beaufoy, the writer of the movie. Is it? I didnt know that. That means youre surrounded by water, Simon answered. And Danny went on, Its funny the way cities are different, though. When we were casting for the film, we went to Kolkata, and its so sleepy, as compared to Mumbai! Its palpable when you step off the plane. Incredible city. Its the same everywhere Newcastle in the UK has such a different identity, and London everybodys in London, from all over the world.
