In the rarest of rare cases, the screenplay of a film is released before the film itself. That’s what makes Gour Hari Dastaan: The Freedom File one of the first of its kind especially in Bollywood. The screenplay of this biopic that is finding true appreciation from many quarters was launched recently by violin maestro Dr L Subramaniam and former top cop Julio Ribeiro, in the presence of its cast and crew.

The movie tells the story of an unusual hero, Gour Hari Das, a soldier of freedom, who was in the midst of two wars — one for national pride, and the other, personal. Described as an ‘extraordinary touching story and socially relevant triumph’ in the UK media, the film has garnered critical and mass acclaim as an ‘acidic satire’ at 14 international film festivals. Vinay’s portrayal as Das won him the Best Actor trophy from an all-European jury in Paris at the Extravagant India Film Festival. Celebrated directors like Shyam Benegal, Shaji Karun and Jeetu Joseph have lauded the film for being a ‘memorable cinematic experience’.
Calling the published screenplay ‘the original unabridged version’, director
Ananth Narayan Mahadevan says, “The book will give the viewer an exciting transition from the written word to the visual medium.”
Gour Hari Dastaan: The Freedom File, produced by Bindiya and Sachin Khanolkar, releases tomorrow.
