Did you know Amjad Khan was not the first choice for the role of Gabbar Singh in 'Sholay'?

One simply cannot forget Hindi film industry's one of the most popular villains, Gabbar Singh, from the iconic film 'Sholay' starring Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan and Amjad Khan.

Each character of the film had its own charm, even the villain! And actor Amjad Khan delivered an extraordinary performance in the film, making Gabbar a timeless antagonist.
However, did you know that he was not the first choice to play the role? Danny Denzongpa was being considered to play the Ramgarh dacoit.But due to previous commitments, he couldn't make it. When Khan was brought on board, writer Javed Akhtar felt that his voice was weak and not suited for the role. Salim Khan and Javed even asked Ramesh Sippy to replace him for the same.
Later, everything fell into place and we got one of Bollywood's most memorable characters.
