Lucknow-born actress Jaya Bhattacharya, best known for her role as Payal in

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

, was in for a shock earlier this week when news of her being

bankrupt

started floating around. The Devdas actress started getting calls and messages from friends and well-wishers asking her how they could help. "Suddenly I was inundated with calls and messages from relatives and friends asking me how they could help. I was perplexed why this was happening. Then my co-actress from the show Thapki Pyaar Ki called me and told me that a story was out in the media and the social media that I was penniless and was literally begging for work as I had to incur huge expenses due to my mother’s illness. It’s true that my

mother

was in the

ICU

in a Mumbai hospital but it’s not that I am broke. Of course money is being spent in her treatment and I am sending out messages to my producer friends that I am looking for work since my last show wrapped up four months ago. But that doesn’t mean I am pleading to be given work. I have worked in the industry for more than a decade with dignity and have enough savings to tide me through this crisis. But I am aghast at this news being spread about me."
Jaya, an only child of her parents, is known for her love for animals and works a lot towards their welfare and also feeds strays regularly at her own expense. "I have faced every crisis alone but sometimes such news gets to me and I feel undermined," says the actress, adding, "I live a very normal life and I have a very simple lifestyle. Having old parents and being the only earning member of the family, I have planned my finances well. Yes, anyone can face a financial crunch in such unexpected circumstances and I did too. But don’t make a tamasha out of it," insists the actress.
"I've always and will continue to work with my head held high and sort out my issues like always. My mother has been shifted to a normal ward now and is keeping better health. At least ek crisis toh khatam hui," says the actress as she signs off on a positive note.
